Aperto Paper at Sammlung Hoffmann_2016.jpg

Aperto Paper, a cultural newspaper that aims to engage in dialogue and diagnose society, to focus on intercultural cooperation between multiple East(s) and West(s), and self-reflection on time, post-historicism, and paradigm shifts. El Lissitsky and Ilya Ehrenburg’s constructivist magazine The Thing was first published in Berlin in April 1922. Its principal idea was an intensive dialogue among nations and cultures, as reflected in the slogan “Art is now International”.

Nearly one hundred years later, we launched our newspaper Aperto with an issue entitled Aperto Time. We have based our work on the selfsame principles of international openness and cultural dialogue, but in a different context that includes such phenomena as the neo-avant-garde, post-historicism, and glocalization. Each issue tackles a current topic, to be it interactions among generations, problems of intercultural reception, the post-internet or the image of modernity. Unrestricted in terms of temporal limits or formats, Aperto is itself an artistic statement and aims to generate a community of kindred spirits.
